Our mission	The Alzheimer’s Association leads the way to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia — by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.

Opportunities	Advocate Help improve the quality of care and quality of life for people with Alzheimer’s disease and their families by carrying our message to elected officials at the federal, state and local levels. Communicate with elected officials via petitions, phone calls and other calls-to-action, participate in area events, and share your story. Occasional 21+ Individuals Office work On-site Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends Early-stage support group facilitator Help facilitate support groups that offer dementia-related education, emotional support, and connections with resources so that group members may live their best life for as long as possible. Weekly, Monthly 21+ Individuals Indoor Formal Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends Community educator Deliver community education programs using prepared training materials on topics related to Alzheimer’s disease, other dementias and memory loss as well as information for individuals and families impacted by the disease. Occasional Adults Individuals Indoor Formal Weekdays, Weekends Physician outreach volunteer Help establish relationships with clinical health providers by sharing information about our programs and services. Occasional, Monthly Adults Individuals Indoor On-site Weekdays Speakers’ bureau volunteer Provide presentations about Alzheimer’s, other dementias and memory loss as well as the Alzheimer’s Association to audiences including senior centers, health fair attendees, community organizations, clubs, congregations and schools. Occasional Adults Individuals Event support, Indoor On-site Weekdays, Weekends Caregiver support group facilitator Help facilitate support groups that provide emotional, educational and social support to those caring for someone living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia. Weekly, Monthly 21+ Individuals Indoor On-site, Formal Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends TrialMatch volunteer Find clinical trials through Alzheimer’s Association TrialMatch®. This free, easy-to-use clinical studies matching service generates customized lists of studies based on user-provided information. You can easily see what studies you may qualify for. Occasional, Weekly 21+ Individuals Indoor On-site Weekdays Special events volunteer Assist with the planning and execution of fundraisers such as Walk to End Alzheimer’s, The Longest Day and The Village at Gordon House 21st anniversary Bill Howard Golf Tournament. Committee member tasks include recruiting team members, raising revenue, increasing awareness and implementing event activities. One-time, Occasional 21+ Individuals Event support On-site Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends Administrative volunteer Assist in the many administrative tasks needed to keep our office running smoothly, including special projects, mailings, collating and copying. Weekly, Monthly Adults Individuals Office work On-site Weekdays

How you help	Join the fight against Alzheimer’s disease by becoming an Alzheimer’s Association Central and Western Virginia volunteer. From planning an event to hosting a support group to providing office support, there are many ways to get involved.

About us	Our chapter is comprised of five regions serving 52 counties and cities. Our offices are in Charlottesville, Danville, Harrisonburg, Lynchburg and Roanoke. Currently more than 140,000 in Virginia are living with Alzheimer’s disease and over 458,000 caregivers, family and friends are providing care. Serving 52 counties and cities, with offices in Charlottesville, Danville, Harrisonburg, Lynchburg and Roanoke, the Alzheimer’s Association is here to help. We provide education and support to all those facing Alzheimer’s and other dementias throughout our community, including those living with the disease, caregivers, health care professionals and families. We are also committed to advocating for the needs and rights of those facing Alzheimer’s disease and advancing critical research toward metnods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure.
