Our mission

The Community Mental Health & Wellness Coalition is a network of over 25 different organizations in Charlottesville and the surrounding counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson Counties, with a mission of collaborating to promote behavioral health and wellness through planning, advocacy, and access to effective service delivery for our region.

Opportunities

Giving Thanks to Health Care & Other Essential Workers

The Community Mental Health & Wellness Coalition is looking for volunteer groups to help us express gratitude to essential workers such as: Region Ten Emergency Services Staff, Health Department Contact Tracers, etc. Gratitude can be shown by writing cards to staff, or buying coffee, or meals. This is in an effort to help boost morale and show appreciation while many essential workers are experiencing burnout, and staffing shortages. Please email [email protected] if you are interested in helping us with this project and to learn more.

Safe Storage Devices Packer & Delivery Driver

The Community Mental Health and Wellness Coalition in partnership with Region Ten CSB, SPARC, and Lock and Talk Virginia are offering free medication lock boxes, and trigger locks to the community to help prevention suicide and drug misuse. Science shows these methods work. Creating a barrier to lethal means of suicide, such as a firearm or prescription medication can help save lives. Suicide attempts usually happen within a short period of crisis, and locking these items in your home can allow time for reflection and to get help. These devices help create a barrier in times of crisis, and can help reduce misuse of prescription medication and firearms.

Since February almost 2,000 devices have been distributed to Charlottesville and the surrounding counties in our catchment area.

We are looking for 1-2 volunteers to help us with tracking, packing, and distributing these lock boxes within Charlottesville, and potentially helping to drive devices to rural county offices when needed. The majority of volunteer hours would be spent packing devices at Region Ten’s Old Lynchburg Rd office and bringing them for community pick-up at our Preston Avenue Clinic, and to the downtown Salvation Army to be handed off to the Medical Reserve Corp delivery volunteers. If you are interested in helping with this substance misuse and suicide prevention effort, have a reliable vehicle, and can donate around 3-5  hours per week please email [email protected] for more information!
