Ways to help |
Stage ManagementWe are in need of well organized people to help run rehearsals and performances. Stage Managers and Assistant Stage Managers keep rehearsals and shows running smoothly, manage calendars and schedules, and coordinate communication between the director, designers, and other members of the production team.Front of HouseUshers, House Managers, Box Office or Concessions volunteers help on the night of a Live Arts performance. Assist audience members, hand out playbills, take tickets, lead audience to their seats, work the concessions stand, and create a welcoming environment for everyone who walks through our doors. The best part is, you get to watch the show!Sound and Light Board OperatorsJoin the tech and production process by running the sound or light board for a fully produced show. Board operators can learn on the job during tech week and get to be a part of every single performance of a Live Arts show.Mentor/Apprentice ProgramWe love to pair up passionate students with experienced designers in order to get real hands-on experience on a theater production team. Teens interested in building their skills in costuming, scenic design, set construction, props, dramaturgy, sound design, or lighting design will be matched with a member of the production team and become an integral part of building a Live Arts show.CostumesCharacters a year come to life on the Live Arts stage with the help of our dedicated volunteer team of sewers, cutter drapers, designers, stitchers, organizers, pullers, and dressers. From no experience to tons of experience, the costume shop can be the place for you. Help maintain our costume stock and support the design and build of Live Arts productions!DressersDressers are an integral part of making sure a show runs smoothly backstage. Supervise wardrobe throughout each performance, help with quick changes, and work with our costume team to learn basic sewing skills that will allow you to attend to any costume needs backstage throughout the run of a show. Dressers are part of the tech and performance process.Set ConstructionIf you're interested in using power tools, painting, construction projects, problem solving, and teamwork, we would love to have your help in the Live Arts Scene Shop. Saturday and Tuesday builds are open to volunteers of all skill levels. We build a range of sets each season, sometimes including full scale staircases, rotating platforms, enormous rolling flats, working onstage appliances like refrigerators or sinks, and more!Administrative/Office VolunteersA lot goes into making a non-profit theater run smoothly. Work with Live Arts staff members to keep the office organized and help with administrative, marketing, development, or education tasks. Great for highly organized volunteers or students interested in careers in theater or arts administration. |

About us | Live Arts is a volunteer theater that has given a home to drama, dance, comedy, music and performance art since 1990. We strive to present high-caliber work unlike anything you’d expect to find in the area. We look to surprise, delight, astonish, and engage with the public by teaching new skills, offering new opportunities, and presenting exciting performances. Above all, we hope that through live performing arts we can forge a deep and lasting bond with our volunteers, audiences, supporters, and community members in Charlottesville and beyond. |
