Our current pressing need is for Volunteers to help our pick up team with picking up donated furniture items and delivering them to our store.
We are always looking for in-store volunteers at both TIN1 and TIN2. There are several departments, and we'd love to chat with you about each one. Our shifts are 2 hours and they can be weekly, monthly, or anything in between.
Email David Barton at [email protected] to schedule an interview!
Our donors are the key to each and every repaired heater, new roof, and safe plumbing and electrical system. When you support AHIP, your contribution goes right to work in our community, making high-quality housing a reality for our neighbors most in need. Thank you!
The Bridge is in need of volunteers for our evening classes on our campus in Buckingham. These classes are an hour long and can feature a variety of topics including addiction recovery, practical life skills, financial literacy, or other topics of interest. Gift students an hour of your time by working with children who need extra support, either emotionally or academically. JABA's FISH (Friends in Schools Helping) Program matches students one-on-one or in small groups with adult mentors to help them thrive.
The Community Mental Health & Wellness Coalition is looking for volunteer groups to help us express gratitude to essential workers such as: Region Ten Emergency Services Staff, Health Department Contact Tracers, etc. Gratitude can be shown by writing cards to staff, or buying coffee, or meals. This is in an effort to help boost morale and show appreciation while many essential workers are experiencing burnout, and staffing shortages. Please email [email protected] if you are interested in helping us with this project and to learn more.

We are excited to once again sponsor the Hospitality Cart Program at UVA Children's Hospital. Since this is at the Medical Center, we work with UVA Volunteer Services to staff this one and have to go through their volunteer process to get approved to work on the pediatric floors. The Cart runs Tuesdays and Thursdays on the 7th floor of the Children’s Hospital and offers coffee, tea, cocoa and water, as well as a variety of snacks and other items. Volunteers need to be available either on Tuesday or Thursday, or on both Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 or 1 p.m. several times a month.
JABA offers free unbiased one-on-one insurance counseling (now via Zoom or by phone) that guides older adults and individuals with disabilities through complicated Medicare questions. We also screen individuals for benefit programs and provide information about how to guard against fraud. Join the team as a Counselor, Greeter/Receptionist, or Intake Call Specialist.
Starting Again in January 2023: Every Friday, volunteers make 75 meals – a sandwich, chips, fresh fruit, veggies with ranch dressing, and a cookie or other dessert – to take to UVA Children’s Hospital. We need folks here from 8 a.m. to around 9:30 a.m to ensure that we can get everything complete and to the Hospital before lunch.
This Program gives us an opportunity to serve complimentary meals to not just our families but to all families that have a child in the Hospital. This helps ease their burdens a little as they don’t have to go far away from their little one to have a nice meal. We have several different levels of participation for individuals, groups or families:
Purchase part or all of the lunch items and deliver them to the House for Friday use
Join us on a designated Friday morning to make the sandwiches and assemble the other items
Make a donation to help cover the expenses for the program for a given Friday

Join Bennett's Village and help meet the goal of raising money to create the first multigenerational, all-abilities playground in Charlottesville.
Our Phase One Goal is to build an accessible treehouse at Pen Park. In order to do this, we need to raise $500,000. Donations of any amount help! Donate here.
Can't contribute money? Spread the word about Bennett's Village in-person or via social media.
One of our most impactful programs is “Meals from the Heart.” Businesses, groups, families, individuals and organizations come to the House and make a meal for our families. When a child is receiving medical treatment for serious illness or injury, taking away the worry of “what’s for dinner?” is a wonderful relief. That’s why we try to have a fresh home-cooked meal every evening when our guests come home from what is often a stressful day at the hospital. The menu and date of the meal donation are completely up to the volunteers. We also occasionally have folks that want to make breakfast, lunch or brunch. Those are always nice treats for our families. We also have groups that come to make desserts for the families – these could be themed around a Holiday if you wanted to do so.
Groups of up to 5 adults are invited to come to the House to cook and portion meals for 15-20 guests. We could really use some volunteers in the coming months! For more information, please email our Volunteer Coordinator, at [email protected] or call 434-295-1885 and ask for Melissa.

The Community Mental Health and Wellness Coalition in partnership with Region Ten CSB, SPARC, and Lock and Talk Virginia are offering free medication lock boxes, and trigger locks to the community to help prevention suicide and drug misuse. Science shows these methods work. Creating a barrier to lethal means of suicide, such as a firearm or prescription medication can help save lives. Suicide attempts usually happen within a short period of crisis, and locking these items in your home can allow time for reflection and to get help. These devices help create a barrier in times of crisis, and can help reduce misuse of prescription medication and firearms.
Since February almost 2,000 devices have been distributed to Charlottesville and the surrounding counties in our catchment area.
We are looking for 1-2 volunteers to help us with tracking, packing, and distributing these lock boxes within Charlottesville, and potentially helping to drive devices to rural county offices when needed. The majority of volunteer hours would be spent packing devices at Region Ten's Old Lynchburg Rd office and bringing them for community pick-up at our Preston Avenue Clinic, and to the downtown Salvation Army to be handed off to the Medical Reserve Corp delivery volunteers. If you are interested in helping with this substance misuse and suicide prevention effort, have a reliable vehicle, and can donate around 3-5 hours per week please email [email protected] for more information!
